Day 1 of the Hanford Advisory Board meeting is on March 23 from 9am-4pm PT. This is an opportunity to see your regional board carry out one of its most important tasks—giving consensus advice to the agencies that run and regulate Hanford’s cleanup.
On Day 1, an introduction will be given on each piece of advice and the board will discuss the advice to see if there is consensus. The advice being considered are the following:
Advice on HAB membership changes- In response to the efforts USDOE is making to diversify the board and implement term limits
Advice on Cleanup Priorities- An outline of the cleanup activities HAB members believe USDOE should prioritize. Activities are labeled as either “critical” or “important”.
Advice on Tank Leaks- Drafted in reaction to leaking tank B-109, this advice asks the regulators to create a plan for what to do when tanks leak in the future
Tune in from 9-4pm PT on March 23 to hear HAB discussion on the latest Hanford developments. If you’re interested in weighing in on the discussion, at 11:30am on March 24 there’s time for the public to comment. Show up virtually to watch the HAB in action!
